Mike from Art is Tree just recently removed my large red oak tree down and did a fantastic job. I wouldn’t call anyone else for the job, Mike and his crew made my yard look better than when they started. This is the second tree related job we’ve used Art is Tree for. We appreciate the quality work that was done here.

Sometimes, a tree becomes more of a liability than an asset. Whether due to disease, structural instability, or age, a tree that is in decline should be evaluated by a professional arborist. Knowing what signs to watch for can help you make a timely decision and avoid potentially dangerous situations. At Art-Is-Tree, we provide expert tree removal in the greater Virginia Beach area. Here are four common warning signs that it might be time to remove a tree from your property. The Tree Is Leaning Heavily While some trees naturally grow at a slight angle, a tree that is suddenly leaning or continuing to tilt further over time may be a sign of a serious problem. This could indicate issues with the root system or internal structural weakness. If the lean is toward a structure, driveway, or heavily used area, it poses an even greater risk. Trees that have begun to lean after a storm should be inspected immediately, as they may be close to falling. Many Large Dead Branches Dead branches, especially those located in the upper canopy, are more than just an eyesore—they can fall without warning, causing damage or injury. If your tree has large sections with bare, brittle, or decaying limbs, it may be suffering from internal decline or disease. The more deadwood a tree has, the less likely it is to recover. An arborist can assess whether pruning is sufficient or if removal is the safer option. The Trunk Is Cracked or Hollow A tree’s trunk is its structural core. If you notice deep cracks or cavities in the trunk, the tree may no longer be able to support its own weight. Hollow trunks can sometimes be deceptive—even trees that appear stable on the outside can be seriously weakened internally. Severe trunk damage often points to advanced decay and can make a tree highly susceptible to breaking or falling. Damaged/Exposed Roots The root system anchors the tree and draws up vital nutrients and water. When roots are exposed, severed by construction, or rotting from disease, the tree can become unstable. Fungal growth around the base of the trunk or a sudden decline in the tree’s health may signal root problems. Since root damage is commonly irreversible, removal is often the best course of action.
